Queensland Health and ÐÇ¿ÕÌåÓý recently hosted community listening pop-ups at the Pines Shopping Centre in Elanora to prepare for the opening of the Tugun Satellite Hospital in mid-November. ?

When you sit down to chat with 74-year-old Rewa Purdie you very quickly get a sense of what a cherished member of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) team she is. Barely a minute goes by without Rewa acknowledging a friendly wave or receiving a big hug from a colleague.
ICU is her family, and the decision to retire has not come easily for this lifelong carer.

Wayne is a former ÐÇ¿ÕÌåÓý patient who, after going through a very tough time, found himself hospitalised for 3 months. It was during his hospital stay that he rediscovered his love of music.

On 28 September Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) celebrated 10 years of caring for the Gold Coast community.

Besides being three times bigger than the old hospital, GCUH has also brought life-saving services to the Gold Coast, providing improved access to specialist care for the community. 

Over the last decade, GCUH seen over 1.45million emergency department presentations and birthed over 54,000 babies!

The Gold Coast University Hospital stroke unit is the first in Queensland, and one of just three in the country, to be recognised as a Comprehensive Stroke Centre. 

This ranking, awarded by the combined team from the Stroke Foundation and Australian Stroke Coalition, is the highest level of certification for hospitals, with specific abilities to receive and treat the most complex stroke cases.

Two months ago, they both launched new careers ¨C 52-year-old mum Linda had been a beauty therapist for 20 years, while 21-year-old Brooklyn had worked, since finishing high school, as a hospital cleaner then orderly ¨C known as a ¡®wardie¡¯ ¨C at Gold Coast University Hospital.

Ashley is a busy mother of two who uses her creative talents as a tool for managing her mental health.
¡°Through painting I have discovered ME. I found a purpose and a relaxation for my soul and my mind. When I paint it brings out my true self,¡± she said.

Dalby resident, Sally finally pushed aside her fear and sense of embarrassment to seek help for the excruciating pain she endured for ten years, since undergoing pelvic mesh surgery for an organ prolapse.?
Sally now feels like a new woman, and it¡¯s thanks to the caring team at Queensland Pelvic Mesh Service. She encourages other women to seek help.
