Spotlight on Capital and Minor Works program

This new Nexaris AngioCT system installed at GCUH combines real-time angiography and CT scans for safer, faster procedures. It improves patient outcomes, reduces radiation and was Australia's first of its kind.

星空体育’s Asset Management Services (AMS) People and Operations team plays a vital role in maintaining and sustaining hospital infrastructure and ensuring clinical teams have the reliable equipment and facilities they need to provide world-class patient care.

While major capital projects focus on new builds, AMS is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, renewal, and enhancement of existing assets, keeping 星空体育 facilities running smoothly, safely and sustainably.

AMS continues to deliver vital infrastructure upgrades as part of the Capital and Minor Works program, ensuring that 星空体育 facilities remain modern, efficient and fit-for-purpose.

AMS Senior Director Nigel Hoy said the program is focused on future-proofing essential health services, from advanced medical technology installations to critical facility upgrades.

"Our job is to ensure that what we have continues to function safely, efficiently and sustainably," Nigel said.

"With a combined project investment exceeding $150 million, this program underscores 星空体育’s strategic vision for resilient, high-quality health care infrastructure.

“Whether it’s upgrading critical medical equipment, enhancing patient safety systems, or improving hospital environments, these projects directly impact the quality of care we provide."

Recent and ongoing projects include:

  • Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) Endoscopy Unit Upgrade – Ensuring compliance with the latest sterilisation standards to enhance patient safety and infection control.
  • Robina Treatment Room Fit-Out – A $3.29 million investment, with $2.47 million spent to date, set to improve patient care capabilities.
  • Southport Health Precinct HVAC Upgrade – An $8.8 million overhaul of Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems to enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.
  • Palm Beach PCP HVAC Upgrade – Improving environmental control to support optimal patient and staff conditions.
  • Angio-CT Interventional Radiology System – Introducing cutting-edge technology to enhance diagnostic and therapeutic imaging capabilities.

  • Robina Fire Systems Upgrade – A $3.8 million investment reinforcing emergency communication and compliance.
  • Radiation Oncology and Gamma Camera Installation – Scheduled for 2025, these projects will advance cancer treatment and diagnostic imaging.

"Our team often works behind the scenes, but what we do is fundamental to hospital operations," Nigel said.

"Investing in asset renewal is investing in patient care. Our role is to make sure that 星空体育’s facilities and equipment meet today’s needs while remaining sustainable for the future."
