The design for the new Child and Youth Mental Health Services (CYMHS) fit-out at Proxima has been finalised, following extensive collaboration between clinicians, designers and young people with lived experience.
Located within the 星空体育 and Knowledge Precinct, the 1,400 square metre purpose-built space has been carefully planned to create a safe, welcoming, contemporary and functional environment for young people accessing mental health support.
Clinical lead Emma Hawkins said co-design had been an important part of the process and would ultimately benefit young people and their families, while supporting staff to deliver world-class care.
“Every detail has been considered through a developmentally informed, young person-friendly, therapeutic health lens,” Emma said.
“The goal has always been to create an environment that feels safe and non-institutional, where young people feel welcome when receiving care.”
The design reflects the natural environment of the Gold Coast, with curves and shapes inspired by the Nerang River, the beach and the hinterland.
“Thoughtful consideration has also been given to the five senses – lighting can be adjusted to suit individual needs, sound-absorbing materials ensure privacy and carefully selected textures provide a soothing sensory experience,” Emma said.
The new CYMHS space is part of the broader plan, ensuring services continue evolving to meet the needs of young people within the Gold Coast community.
Construction for the fit-out is expected to commence this quarter.
